About us

Formed in 2017, the Shrivenham Ladies Choir currently comprises around 30 singers, with members coming from communities in and around Shrivenham. The Choir's repertoire comprises many types of songs - popular songs, show tunes, religious pieces and traditional songs. So there's something for everyone.

The Choir has performed in a number of local concerts to raise funds for local community causes.

We're always keen to recruit new members.

Our ethos is to have fun singing together and to enjoy each other's company, working hard to make a lovely sound with the talent we have.

Our Musical Director

The Choir's repertoire consists of both accompanied and unaccompanied songs.  Pianist Simon Warren has been our accompanist since 2024.

"I first fell in love with music as a teenager, but after the age of 19 career and family moved music down the list. About six years ago I returned to the piano, helped by a wonderfully supportive teacher who encouraged me to try accompaniment. That led to my role with the Shrivenham Ladies Choir. I also sing with the Wessex Male Choir, and making music with both groups is a real joy".

Grahame Jones formed the Shrivenham Ladies Choir in September 2017, starting initially with a group of family, friends and friends of friends.

"After years of working in IT, retirement offered me the opportunity to share my love for choral singing with others. I started singing with my local church choir when I was young, joined a Welsh male choir in London in my twenties, and then The Wessex Male Choir in my forties.  Close harmony singing, especially unaccompanied, has long been a favourite for me. Starting a ladies choir gave me the chance to pursue and share my passion with others".

Our Accompanist

"I've always enjoyed being part of the choir. Grahame, our musical director, has a talent for turning our very ordinary voices into a well crafted sound of which we can be proud." (Kathy)

"Choir is my happy place." (Anne)

"I joined the choir three years ago when we moved to Shrivenham, as a way of meeting new people and I love it. It's a great way of relaxing after a busy day at work - and I've made some lovely friends." (Jill)

"Such a warm and friendly group, and Grahame seems to have a boundless fund of patience and enthusiasm." (Nicola)
